Leaders to Fishing Line
Joining a leader to fishing line usually involves joining fishing line of differing sizes. Great care should be taken in your knot choice and with the knot tying. One of the better all-round knots for the task is the Double Centauri Knot. If line type or diameters become too different you should maybe consider the Albright knot. Fisherman the world over have struggled with the leader to fishing line connection and many resort to a double simply for security or including a swivel or brass ring between the line and leader. Regardless of choice you can bet the fish will be doing its damnedest to break the join.
The leader to fishing line knots illustrated here are suitable for tying in both saltwater fishing and freshwater fishing situations.

The Albright knot is a quick and easy method of attaching cordage or lighter line to heavier line. It is used where the lines vary significantly in diameter size.
The Cross Loop Connection forms a connection between two loops.
The Double Blood Knot is used for joining two lines of similar diameter. It is a common method for attaching monofilament lines of similar diameter and is relatively simple to tie.
The Double Centauri knot is an excellent knot for joining lines with similar and slight variations in line diameter, this makes it a particularly versatile line to line knot.
The Double Four Fold Blood Knot is used for joining two lines of similar diameter. It is a common method for attaching monofilament lines of similar diameter and is relatively simple to tie.
The Double Grapevine Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grapevine Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Grinner Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grinner Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Hangman's Noose, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Uni knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Multiple Fisherman's Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Multiple Fisherman's Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred li
The Double Nail knot provides a strong connection between two lines of similar or different diameters.
The Double Uni knot, which is known by many other names worldwide, is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Uni knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Improved Blood Knot is a variation of the standard blood knot; used when lines that are of dissimilar thickness require joining.
The Nail less Nail knot is a useful knot for joining a thinner line to a thicker line or leader. In the case of fly fishing, this would nominally be backing line to mainline or fly line to leader.
The plaited splice is a method of joining two lines and provides maximum line strength.
The Reverse Twist Blood Knot is an effective knot for joining two lines and follows the same principle of the blood knot. It works well with monofilament, light lines and some super lines.
The Simple Simon Double is a quick and easy method of attaching cordage or lighter line to heavier line. It is used where the lines vary significantly in diameter size.
Slim Beauty is a connection for connecting line to a heavier leader.
The split leader provides a fast and effective method of creating dual leaders from which terminal tackle can be attached.
The surgeon's knot is not a preferred line joining knot, although fly fisherman and some anglers use it from time to time. All too often confused with the multi overhand knot.
